A Bit About Us

A short walk from Reading town centre, we are specialists in Great Beer from cask, keg & bottle with an ever-changing range; expect craft beer favourites, Belgian bottles and local classics as well as rotating range of traditional ciders and artisan gins plus stacks of whisky, rum, wine and non-alcoholic offerings including beer, coffee & tea.

We are proud to be a community pub and each month we host an Open Mic, sea-shanty evening, and a folk night. We have recently started a Cider Club and try to run a variety of tastings over the year. There is an active darts team and we have  board games and a piano for customers to enjoy.
Additionally we have Live Music most weekends, an outdoor space for sunny afternoons and encourage local groups to book our separate TV room for events. We currently host a free-to-join group for people interested in Story-telling as well as being the venue for regular groups such as book clubs, Green drinks & Queer socials.

The easiest way to get in touch is by email either:

Accessibility Info

There is a small carpark at the rear of the pub and people with mobility issues are given priority for using it to park. Access from there into the back room is basically level with only a small (less than 2cm) lip on the door frame.
From the back room to the main bar is a narrow corridor with 1 corner and a slightly uneven surface and then a ramp up to the entrance door. Mobility scooters and some power chairs will struggle with the turning space but most self-propelled chairs are fine.
The doors are not power assisted and some people may need a companion or member of staff to open them when they are not propped open.

There is one larger size cubicle but please be aware the toilets are not an adapted space (e.g. emergency cord, lowered sinks etc.).
There is no lower counter area at the bar.

Written menus/signs are near the bar for Draught, Low & No Alcohol bottles & cans, Cheese, Soft Drinks, Wine and Snacks. We do not have braille or non-English translations but staff are also happy to verbally describe options available to you if you would prefer. Staff are not BSL trained but have some simple signs and notepaper if that is helpful.

There is no fluorescent lighting in the bar areas. The main bar has a lot of natural light during daylight hours but the back room is darker. There is usually music playing in the main bar but not the back room. Light Levels and overall volume depend on whether there is event, what type it is and number of customers.

Kids, Dogs & Reasonable Behaviour

We allow dogs at all times provided they are kept suitably under control and are not a nuisance to other customers. If your pet makes a mess please clean up after it. Please note that gigs etc may not be a suitable environment for animals.

All persons under the age of 18 should be with a supervising responsible adult. Children should not be a nuisance to other customers and if they make a mess, please clean it up.
We ask that school age children 4-16 leave the main bar after 9pm except with prior permission. Babies & older teens (16+) are permitted but please note the environment may not be suitable so please use discretion.
